5 years of SDGs – Strategies for an improved implementation of the 2030-Agenda for sustainable development an the interface of health and the environment

The implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) must take into account the interactions between the goals, including between environment and health. Health-related environmental protection is reflected in several SDGs. Among others, it is about minimising hazards from chemicals, air, water and soil pollution, improving water quality, equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water and reducing urban pollution. The project aims to address the nexus between environment and human health, to identify coherence and trade-offs between environmental and health SDGs, to make the issue more tangible for key actors and the public, to align reporting at national, European and global levels, and to develop solutions to identified gaps. The project team is conducting a literature review on the intersection of environment and health, including social determinants of environment-related health risks. It is also evaluating promising approaches to action and communication on the environment and health interface. Three cross-sectoral events and an ideas workshop on the environment and health interface accompany the project.
