A transition policy for forests in Germany

The energy transition and climate change, biodiversity protection and societal demands require a sustainability transformation of forestry in Germany. The demands on forests are manifold: they range from timber production and profitability to recreational and protective functions to ecological requirements. This raises the question of which uses should be given priority for sustainable silviculture. Forest management must also think several decades ahead and take long-term developments such as adaptation to climate change into account. The aim of the project is to produce a strategy paper that describes the current problems of forest management in Germany from an ecological, economic and institutional point of view, identifies possible fields of action for a change in forest policy in Germany and explores transformative approaches to action.
