Accompanying research on the establishment and implementation of a European emissions trading system approach in maritime transport

The aim of the research project is to provide scientific support for the process of revising the EU ETS and the EU MRV Regulation. The project team supports the German Environment Agency (UBA) and the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in this process with technical expertise, whereby existing knowledge is supplemented and new questions are discussed. In particular, the qualitative interrelationships of the inclusion of maritime transport in the EU ETS are analysed through a market analysis of the sector and the presentation of relevant policy instruments in the sector. The focus of the project is the economic and ecological impact of including maritime transport in the EU ETS - also in interaction with other instruments.

The results of the project are discussed in workshops.
