Accounting for the linking of ETS under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in the light of the Glasgow decisions

This project assesses what approaches could be used by countries to account for the linking of emissions trading systems under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, based on the decisions on international carbon markets taken at COP26 in Glasgow. The advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to determine the number of internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (ITMOs) are evaluated. Moreover, it is explored how a share of proceeds (SOP) and overall mitigation in global emissions (OMGE) can be implemented in the context of linking emissions trading systems.
