Construction of the coal double-block power station Ensdorf – Short expertise on the Scoping documents provided by the RWE Power AG

RWE Power AG is planning the construction of a new hard coal-fired twin unit at the Ensdorf site with an electrical output of approx. 2 x 800 MW. This project requires a licence under immission control law. In addition, an environmental impact assessment is required. As part of the environmental impact assessment, the Öko-Institut e.V. was commissioned by the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Saarland state parliament to examine the scoping documents submitted by RWE Power AG [RWE 2007] to ascertain

  • whether all necessary investigations and forecasts regarding the environmental compatibility of the project should be carried out, and
  • whether these investigations and forecasts should be carried out with sufficient quality and to a sufficient extent.
