Consumer advice as a component of a successful resource policy

Consumers have considerable influence on resource conservation and resource-saving consumption. In the German Resource Efficiency Programme (ProgRess), the goal was formulated to strengthen resource conservation as a criterion for consumers and to position resource-efficient products more strongly. To this end, consumer information is to be improved and consumer competence strengthened. Against this background, the overarching objective of the project 'Consumer advice as a central element of successful resource politics' is to anchor relevant aspects of resource protection, such as savings in materials and space, as well as corresponding options for action, such as the optimum useful life of products, adapted purchasing volumes, the choice of resource-saving products, adequate use and disposal, more firmly in the existing practice of consumer advice. The work steps include: 1. analysis of priority action options for consumers in resource protection, 2. analysis of the consulting landscape in Germany, 3. identification of consulting gaps, 4. development and testing of four exemplary model projects to anchor resource protection in consumer consulting, 5. evaluation and dissemination. This final report summarises the results and findings of the project's work.
