Critical Review of a comparative LCA on printing processes with particular reference to a technical innovation

The Henkel AG Co. KGaA (in short referred to as Henkel) has carried out a life cycle assessment, in which a newly developed printing process is compared with conventional printing processes at the state of the art level. The results of this LCA are intended for publication and communication to (business) customers; specifically, the ecological benefits of the newly developed technology are to be evaluated quantitatively. Against this background, with the aim of reaching the targeted conformity with the "life cycle assessment" standards DIN EN ISO 14040 and 14044, Henkel requested the Oeko-Institute to carry out a critical review of this life cycle assessment.
