Development and monitoring of the testing of nature conservation minimum standards for the preservation and promotion of biodiversity in future paludic cultures on agricultural land

The aim of the project is to develop minimum standards for nature conservation in production-oriented management of wet organic soils with (mostly) preservation of the peat body (paludiculture) on agriculturally used areas. The practical implementation of paludiculture forms is critically analysed, new pilot projects are advised and the implementation of monitoring activities is supported. The focus lies on sustainable solutions in which synergies between production, conservation and promotion of biodiversity and climate protection on peatlands can develop. Nature conservation measures should accompany newly emerging paludiculture projects from the very beginning and thus play an essential role in the implementation of paludiculture. In addition, the achievable greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction that can be achieved by paludiculture use and economic parameters are included as comparative values in the minimum standard and the monitoring.
