Development of indicators in a catalogue of criteria and implementation of an initial survey to determine the current situation for the evaluation of the national radon action plan.

Radon protection in the Radiation Protection Act has been in force since the end of last year. The law defines a reference value for the radon activity concentration indoors and at workplaces. The law stipulates that the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, with the participation of the German federal states, shall develop a radon action plan containing measures and targets for the process of reducing exposure to radon. This plan of measures is to be updated regularly, at the latest after ten years. The purpose of the research project is to establish the basis for preparing and carrying out the evaluation according to objective standards. It should establish the parameters for the evaluation of the action plan and determine the status quo, which should be used as a benchmark for the assessment.
