ENSURE: New Energy Grid Structures for Energy Transition (Phase II)

The Kopernikus project ENSURE uses a holistic approach to research new energy network structures for the energy transition. A major focus is on clarifying the question of how centralised and decentralised elements of the future system of energy supply should be designed. In a demonstration of grid technologies, the feasibility of selected research results such as systemic concepts and new technologies is tested.

The detailed work in the project is based on scenarios for climate neutrality in Germany by 2045.Oeko-Institut develops, jointly with a group of selected stakholers and other project partners, respective storylines from phase I of the project and translates them into scenarios for the energy sector. Oeko-Institut also supports the consortium in further developing concepts and methods for societal participation in new energy system and grid structures in the region of the planned demonstrator, and contributes to a deepened environmental regional assessment of the demonstrator.
