Expert accompanying research "overhead catenary heavy duty vehicles" in Germany

According to current knowledge, the German government's climate policy objectives can only be achieved if concepts for the electrification of the transport sector are also developed, tested and implemented on a large scale for heavy goods traffic. With the adoption of the "Climate Protection 2020" action program, the German government therefore decided, among other things, to carry out a field trial to test electric drives in heavy commercial vehicles. To implement the decision, the ELISA, FESH and eWayBW projects will each set up a test track for trolley trucks on a federal trunk road and test operation under everyday conditions.

The aim of the BOLD project is to correlate results from the three field test projects and other research projects on the overall system of overhead line trucks and overhead line infrastructure, to make them comparable across projects, and thus to maximize the knowledge gained from all projects. Environmental impacts and acceptance are the main areas of focus. On this basis, political scenarios and strategies for a possible system introduction will be developed. Experts from the other projects, as well as external stakeholders, will be intensively involved. The results of the BOLD project thus form a comprehensive scientific basis for future decisions on large-scale system introduction.
