Expert advice to the district of Emsland on the results of the interim report on sub-areas, on the current status of the site selection procedure and on the method of excluding areas within the representative preliminary safety analyses in the site selection procedure for a repository

In an initial expert consulting project for the district of Emsland, the Oeko-Institut primarily examined the plausibility of the BGE's assessment of the Wahn, Lathen and Börger salt domes and then supported the district in preparing a statement for the project developer and in formulating an application for the sub-area expert conference. The consulting activities will be resumed with this new project and the current status of the site selection process for the district of Emsland will first be presented at a meeting of the district. A further, optional work package will follow once an initial exclusion of areas has taken place in the course of the  representative preliminary safety analyses - i.e. probably at the end of 2024 - and it becomes clear that potentially suitable areas remain in the district. For these areas, the Oeko-Institut checks the plausibility of the BGE's assessment and again supports the district in preparing a technical statement and informing the public about the status.
