Expert Commission on the Monitoring of the Energy Transition

To review the progress of the Energy Concept and the implementation status of related measures, the German government has launched a monitoring process in order to be able to make adjustments if necessary. To this end, the German government appointed an independent Expert Commission with four members to review and comment on the monitoring reports to be prepared by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). Dr. Felix Matthes was appointed to this Expert Commission effective July 1, 2022. Due to the current dynamic overall situation in the energy market, the BMWK asked the Expert Commission to prepare an analysis of the current situation on the electricity market and further development options for the electricity market design against the background of the “Energiewende”, which was presented in February 2023.

Within the framework of Section 54 (3) of the Coal Electricity Phase-out Act (KVBG), the Expert Commission was given the task of evaluating the regular review of the coal phase-out and submitting recommendations in this regard.
