Extending the integration of social aspects in the ecolabel Blue Angel

The overall objective of the project is to further enhance the credibility, visibility and scope of the Blue Angel eco-label as a sustainability label. The aim of this project is to make a contribution to ensuring that the award criteria of the Blue Angel not only meet the ambitious environmental requirements but also reliably and trustworthily take into account and maintain social and human rights aspects of the global supply chains. In concrete terms, the project pursues the following sub-objectives: (1) Identification of consumer expectations for the integration of social standards and the interests of manufacturers (from the Blue Angel product range) and associated obstacles, opportunities or alternatives (2) Selection of product groups / sectors relevant for the integration of social criteria into the Blue Angel from the viewpoint of consumers, companies and society (3) Analysis of international standards, conventions, initiatives and labels relevant to social standards in the respective product groups / sectors, and evaluation of their readiness to enter the implementation phase (feasibility check), as well as reliable, trustworthy and efficient verification in the Blue Angel. (4) Formulation of specific, legally sound, workable and target-oriented approaches to action in the selected product groups / sectors for the Federal Environment Agency and RAL, including conclusions. (5) Elaboration of a communication concept for positioning and sharpening the profile of the Blue Angel towards consumers and society in the area of social standards.
