Further development of the evaluation of the climate impact of urban development funding

For decades, urban development funding has been a key instrument for urban renewal and the further development of urban districts and neighbourhoods in German cities and municipalities. The aim of urban development funding is to promote sustainable urban development in the areas of economy, social affairs, culture and ecology. It supports local authorities in overcoming functional losses as well as urban development and social problems. Increasingly, measures for climate protection and adaptation to climate change are also being implemented as part of urban development funding. For the first time, the Oeko-Institut has analysed and evaluated the climate impact of urban development funding in the project "Incentive and bundling effect, climate protection and regional reach of urban development funding". In this project, we are now developing a methodology and a tool with which the climate impact of urban development funding can be regularly assessed quantitatively and qualitatively.
