Green Goal – the sustainability action plan for the FIFA Football World Cup Germany 2006 (Implementation phase)

The 2006 FIFA World Cup ^TM is expected to attract over 3.2 million spectators from Germany and abroad to the 64 matches, which will result in a considerable volume of traffic. There are also other areas that have an impact on the environment: Electricity and water are needed in the stadiums, and waste has to be disposed of. To minimise the negative effects on the environment, the 2006 FIFA World Cup ^TM is to be the first sporting event of a new generation: Green Goal ^TM , the environmental concept for the 2006 FIFA World Cup ^TM developed by the Öko-Institut on behalf of the Organising Committee, envisages a neutral carbon footprint.
