Housing-led mobility: Projects for promoting climate-friendly mobility at the place of residence

In cooperation with housing companies, municipalities and mobility service providers, the aim of this project is to make it easier for tenants to access climate-friendly means of transport at their place of residence as an alternative to the car. The aim is to promote freedom of choice and significantly reduce mobility-related greenhouse gas emissions by providing easy access to a range of mobility options. The Öko-Institut provides scientific support for the dialog and advice to housing companies and other stakeholders, such as representatives from politics, administration and mobility service providers, and advises them on legal issues, among other things, that arise during the development of innovative measures for climate-compatible mobility in residential locations ("Topic Compass" or "Guide"). In addition, discussions and workshops will be held with experts at several locations selected throughout Germany (including the Lincoln-Siedlung in Darmstadt and Gartenstadt Drewitz in Potsdam). This is intended to contribute to a better understanding of the processes involved in designing and implementing sustainable mobility concepts at residential locations and is also reflected in the final project guide. In addition, the Öko-Institut is evaluating the project's climate protection impact in consultation with the collaborative partners: the emission savings that can be achieved in the project are thereby estimated using plausible assumptions and known indicators, even beyond the project duration. The "Housing leads mobility" project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB). The German Transport Club (VCD) and the German Tenants' Association (DMB) are involved in the project as partners. Information on the current status of the project and publications for downloading can also be found on the VCD website ( https://www.vcd.org/wohnen-und-mobilitaet ). Further information is available from the BMUB (www.klimaschutz.de) and Project Management Jülich (www.ptj.de/klimaschutzinitiative/wirtschaft-verbraucher-bildung).
