How environmentally and socially acceptable are CCS, BECCS and CCU technologies?

This brief study identifies the environmental and social risks and opportunities associated with each negative emission technology (NET), the current public perception of NETs, and the future direction of public communication on the topic. Not all NETs are considered, but the focus is on the technologies Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) as well as related technologies such as Direct Air Capture (DAC) and Bio-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS). The central question in the sense of a forward-looking precautionary principle is to what extent the ecological and social risks associated with the technologies can be tolerated against the background of the risks induced by climate heating.
