Impact of COVID-19 on single-use plastics and the environment in Europe

The objective of this project is to assess the impact on the consumption, production and environmental challenges of single-use plastics in Europe (mainly packaging and personal protection equipment) related to the on-going COVID-19 crisis management. More specifically, the report determines and assesses the already observed and potential future impacts of COVID-19 on: 1. the production, consumption and trade of single-use plastics in Europe; 2.the estimated environmental and climate impacts associated with the additional use of single-use plastics in Europe; 3.the achievement of European policy objectives related to single-use plastics. A series of mini workshops for interested EEA member countries is organised to provide input to the analytical chapters of the report. The report and outcomes of the workshops provide the basis for a separate EEA briefing.
