Innovative and systematic approaches for greater energy efficiency in municipal public transport

The aim of the project is to develop a set of instruments to promote measures to increase the energy efficiency of public road passenger transport (PPP) and to reduce the associated greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, the following subgoals are to be achieved initially: - Definition of suitable energy efficiency criteria for public transport - Identification of suitable individual measures to improve energy efficiency together with the actors involved, in particular with four transport companies that have taken a closer look. - Quantification of the potentials for efficiency improvement and emission reduction for the individual measures - Business and environmental cost accounting - Estimation of possible displacement effects. The results are to be made transparent for the public in a catalogue of measures and put up for discussion as a first result. The following questions should also be asked in this context: - Which possible negative side effects could occur and how could they be avoided? - Do the measures also serve to strengthen the perception of public transport as an efficient and low-emission means of transport? - Which measures are suitable to be used in intramodal competition between different providers within the framework of public tenders? In the further course of the project, further subgoals will be used to ensure that suitable measures are implemented.
