Legal Support for the Implementation of the New EU Climate Target and the Further Development of Climate Law

The tightening of the EU climate target from 40 to 55 % emission reduction by 2030 in the European Climate Change Act and the adoption of the European Commission's Fit for 55 package for the implementation of this target require considerable adaptation in Germany. Such a need also arises from national climate protection law, in particular the climate decision of the Federal Constitutional Court (BVerfG) and the amended requirements of the Federal Climate Change Act (KSG). In this project, Oeko-Institut, together with the Ecologic Institute and Prof. Dr. Klinski, supports the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in the preparation of negotiations at the EU level, the implementation of EU law, and the further development of the national legal framework. The support is provided by elaborating legal issues including economic and other effects as well as by ad hoc analyses.
