Lignite opencast mine Hambach: Climate protection and energy management necessity

On May 7, 2018, the Arnsberg district government issued a land transfer resolution stipulating that a plot of land belonging to BUND NRW e.V. in the Hambach opencast mine area will be transferred to RWE Power AG. BUND has filed a complaint against this decision. The administrative court proceedings also takes into account the public interest underlying the decision to transfer the land.

Against this background, this study deals with climate policy and energy-economic aspects of lignite-based power generation and the Hambach opencast mine.
