Power efficiency classes for households: Supporting power-saving innovations in households, market and appliance technology - sub-project 2: optimization potentials, business models and energy saving potentials

The project goal was to provide tools for the management of private households' total electricity consumption in order to cut electricity consumption permanently and reach the goals of the German government's energy concept. This was achieved by introducing a new integrative label "Electricity efficiency classes" combining (a) the definition of efficiency classes, (b) a highly symbolic design and award system, (c) modular improvement packages which are attractively presented. The steps were as follows: WP 1: Development of a household typology and efficiency classes; WP2: development of the design and award system, WP3: compilation of the improvement packages, WP4: stakeholder dialogue; WP 5: test of the system by a field experiment and a survey; WP 6: transfer of results, WP7: project management.
