Promoting environmental-friendly services in ASEAN taking the example of Germany’s environmental standards, such as the Blue Angel label

The overarching goal of Oeko-Institute’s planned activities in ASEAN was to contribute towards driving the policy framework for promoting the sustainable consumption and production pattern in ASEAN in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts. Thus, Oeko-Institut coordinated its activities very closely with the target countries and carried out following key tasks: (1) Methodological and technical support for target countries (Thailand and Malaysia) in developing environmental criteria and standards for two to three complex services (2) Methodological and technical support for target countries (Thailand and Malaysia) in integrating environmental criteria for selected complex services in existing instruments for sustainable consumption and production, such as Type 1 ecolabels and Green Public Procurement (3) Initiating a multi-stakeholder dialogue (e.g. industry associations, companies, standardization and test institutes, research institutes and NGOs) on environmental standards for complex services and participating in the standard development process.
