Recycling - Sustainable Use of Resources (ReNaRe)- Life Cycle Assessment of recycling processes for eletrolyzers (PEMEL und SOEL)

The project deals with recycling, i.e. closing the material cycles, especially of the critical elements required for the functionality of an electrolyser. It brings together technological approaches from research in the fields of functional materials, automated disassembly, mechanical and sensor-based recycling and metallurgy with central industrial partners from the fields of electrolyser materials and associated raw materials. The project thus closes the bracket between the end of use phase and (new) material synthesis in the lead project. The digitised data sets of the recycling process are used for an associated life cycle assessment (LCA). In the course of the project, the Öko-Institut will carry out life cycle assessments (LCA) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14040/14044 for the recycling processes of the main material groups under consideration for the different electrolysers in order to work out the ecological advantages of the processes.
