Review of air pollutant emissions and noise emissions at the UHU company

Due to concerns from the neighbourhood regarding the health and environmental hazards posed by the substances used (particularly solvents) as well as complaints about odour and noise pollution, the Öko-Institut was commissioned to examine the air, pollutant and noise emissions at UHU GmbH & Co KG. Among other things, numerous emission measurement reports, the authorisation notices, the safety data sheets for the substances used, the latest solvent balance and the flow diagram of the solvent tank farm were submitted for examination.

Over the course of two days, several inspections of the various operational areas were carried out during ongoing production, e.g. all production facilities, handling and storage of raw materials (tank farm, drum and bag storage, peroxide storage), packaging facilities, ancillary facilities such as acetone distillation (solvent recycling), waste collection points and hazardous waste storage as well as waste gas purification (activated carbon filter). In addition, an inspection was carried out around the plant site and on the neighbouring slope with residential buildings in order to gain an impression of possible odour and noise pollution. Several meetings were also held to clarify any questions that arose.
