Review of the periodic safety assessment of the Thorium-High-Temperature Reactor 300 in Hamm Uentrop (shut-down, safe enclosure)

The Thorium-High-Temperature Reactor (pebble bed reactor) in Hamm-Uentrop was shutdown in 1989 after a period of operation under testing conditions and is held in safe enclosure since 1997. The periodic safety assessment as required has to be performed. The periodic safety assessment of an installation in safe enclosure is carried out for the first time. The review will evaluate wether the THTR 300 is safe according to the current state science and technology and if necessary to recommend measures to enhance safety.
