Review of the periodic safety assessment of the uranium enrichment facility in Gronau (UAG). Technical expert services for the governmental supervision of the construction and operation of the UAG

The Urenco Deutschland GmbH has performed the periodic safety assessment of of the uranium enrichment faciity in Gronau (UAG). Due to the nuclear accident in Fukushima the date of the safety assessment has been brought forward. On behalf of the responsible supervision authority the Oeko-Institute is contracted as one of the main reviewers of the following key aspects: site evaluation, external hazards, safety management and safety organisation, chemotoxic impacts as well as radioactive waste materials and waste management.

As a follow-up to the safety assessment, completed in 2013, the implementation of the recommendations is evaluated. Main topic is the verification of the earthquake resistance.
