Revision and further development of the environmental criteria in the clothing and textiles product group

In March 2013, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the project "Quality Check Sustainability Standards". The aim of the project was to give consumers, government agencies, companies and civil society access to an internationally agreed methodology for measuring and evaluating the performance and credibility of sustainability standards. The evaluation criteria for the evaluation of sustainability standards in the textiles product group were then to be revised and further developed by Oeko-Institut for the environmental sector. These revised evaluation criteria should also form the basis for the awarding of the governmental meta-label "Grüner Knopf" (Green Button), which - at that time - was being developed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), which intended to label sustainably produced textiles from 2019 onwards.
