scale up! Emission-free airport vehicles

How aircraft handling can be operated in a more environmentally friendly way is the focus of the sclae up! project in cooperation with Stuttgart Airport. Air traffic is one of the major contributors to negative environmental impacts - especially for the aircraft themselves, the switch to alternative drives is still a major challenge. Zero-emission vehicles are already available for operations on the apron, which are provided by logistics and service providers, but so far they have only been used in pilot projects at a few airports. How the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants from aircraft, passenger and baggage handling can be reduced and what role electromobility can play in this is the subject of investigation in the "scale up! - Emission-free airport fleet" project. As part of the project, Öko-Institut is accompanying the practical use of electric vehicles on the apron and, on the basis of a comprehensive data collection, is investigating the technical suitability, economic viability and direct and indirect ecological effects. The project also aims to develop a roadmap for the further expansion of electromobility at Stuttgart Airport, derive recommendations for action and investigate transferability to other airports.
