Scientific analyses of current climate policy issues in the land use, land-use change and forestry sector (LULUCF)

The project aimed to support the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) in the short-term assessment of climate policy issues in the LULUCF sector. The work followed concrete questions arising from the current political debate and were defined in consultation with the BMU in the course of the project. They included the preparation of short studies and statements addressing, among other things, calculations of the economic impacts and other consequences of proposed measures in the LULUCF sector. Scientific analyses on current topics of the climate and technical policy debate with reference to the LULUCF sector were also processed. In addition to the technical or substantive evaluation of existing proposals for measures, the LULUCF team also contributed with own proposals for measures to the discussion. One objective was to close possible gaps in other sectors through GHG reductions or sinks in the LULUCF sector.
