Scoping voluntary corporate climate action in the European aviation sector

The objective of this project is the update of the study Offsetting in the aviation sector conducted in 2016. With this update the project assesses the extent and quality of airlines’ beyond value chain mitigation (BVCM) approaches. The research is carried out in two steps:

1) Collecting and summarizing the BVCM approach of European airlines (at least the 10 largest airlines, by passenger number)

2) Providing an assessment of the quality, i.e. likely climate impact, of companies’ BVCM approach, including a comparison of the relative environmental integrity of airlines’ approaches, possibly through a ranking system.
