Sector targets 2030 and climate-neutral Baden-Württemberg 2040

Within the framework of the project, quantitative and qualitative investigations are carried out in order to implement the goal of climate neutrality by 2040, as stipulated in the Climate Protection Act of Baden-Württemberg. Based on scenarios, a possible path is calculated and described to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions (sources) and sinks in 2040. For the target year 2030, for which a reduction target of 65% compared to 1990 is foreseen, proposals for sectoral emission reductions are developed. The analysis is based on sector-specific considerations, which are then combined into an overall target scenario.

On the basis of the necessary developments outlined in the target scenario, key strategies for the respective sectors are worked out and targeted measures are developed. This also takes into account whether and to what extent Baden-Württemberg has room for manoeuvre in implementing the measures.

Since residual emissions (e.g. from the agricultural sector) are likely to be present in 2040 and there are different options for taking natural sinks into account throughout Germany, proposals will be developed on how the burden could be distributed among the different federal states.
