Smart Home - Energy consumption and savings potential of intelligent devices

The overarching objective of the project was to show that the use of intelligent and networked devices in private households can potentially lead to energy savings, but that the corresponding devices themselves – due to their smart characteristics – consume more electricity than the analogue solutions previously did. This study was intended to show in which areas smart home solutions can actually save energy and where smart solutions lead to increased consumption. To this end, smart home applications in the areas of energy saving, safety and comfort were analysed.
