Sustainable cooling in buildings in Europe – Concepts for avoiding heat islands and for a comfortable indoor climate

Against the background of urbanisation and climate change, the aim of the project is to comprehensively capture the increasing problem of the urban heat island effect (UHIE) and to show effective countermeasures. The project comprises the following elements: • Analysis and assessment of concepts for avoiding urban heat islands and for sustainable cooling technologies; • Coupling of microclimate and building simulations with hourly resolution for selected quarters in Germany, Southern Europe and North Africa; • Organisation of a stakeholder workshop; • Deriving policy recommendations.
