Sustainable Recycling Industries - Component Ghana

The overall development objective of the programme (SRI continuation) is that favourable framework conditions enable the development of a sustainable recycling industry for e-waste and related waste streams in SECO partner countries. The programme is focusing on governance and technology aspects that allow for an optimal recovery of secondary raw materials and the safe management of hazardous substances. In all its activities, SRI strives for inclusive approaches, aiming at beneficial economic conditions for both the private industry and the informal sector. SRI leverages the concept of a circular economy and contributes to actions on climate change mitigation through a reintegration of secondary raw materials into industrial processes. To maximize and measure the positive impact of the programme, metrics for sustainability and the environmental benefits of implemented changes will be developed and applied. The programme is structured into a country component with four outcomes and a knowledge component with one outcome. The country component includes Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Colombia and Peru. The focus and priorities for specific tasks related to the main outcomes will be set country specific in order to take into account the specific characteristics and different development stages in adapting sustainable recycling solutions in each country. The knowledge component is comprised of activities complementing the country components aiming at further supporting an international stakeholder dialog and normative processes, providing metrics and methods to support and measure change, and to maximize the programme impacts through communication and dissemination measures and as accessible global public goods.
