Technical support for analysis of some elements of the CO2 emission standards for heavy duty vehicles (HDV)

The objectives of the project are to support the European Commission in evaluating the effectiveness of the HDV CO2 Regulation and preparing the impact assessment for the update of the CO2 Regulation for heavy-duty vehicles. In the project, Öko-Institut leads the work on possible policy options for accounting GHG emission reductions from renewable fuels. To this end, various design options are evaluated in terms of their benefits, risks and challenges, and cost calculations were carried out for vehicle manufacturers and vehicle users. In addition, Öko-Institut compares different powertrain options for GHG emission reduction. The focus is on a cost comparison of the total cost of ownership. Cost calculations are also carried out for SMEs, which have different financing options than larger companies.
