WWF/EDF Carbon credit rating - Phase II

Founded by Environmental Defense Fund, Oeko-Institut and World Wildlife Fund (WWF-US), the Carbon Credit Quality Initiative (CCQI) provides transparent information on the quality of carbon credits. In this phase of the project, the CCQI methodology was applied to three project types (landfill gas utilisation, establishment of natural forest, and efficient cookstoves) and to four carbon crediting programmes (Clean Development Mechanism, Climate Action Reserve, Gold Standard, Verified Carbon Standard). In addition, an interactive project website ( www.carboncreditquality.org ) with a scoring tool to visualise the gradings of different types of carbon credits was established. Moreover, an Excel tool was developed to help users apply the methodology on their own.
