Blueprint for Agriculture - Poster

The EEG approach to promoting biodiversity measures

Preview of PDF File

The poster analyses the possibility of financing biodiversity-promoting measures in agriculture through a model similar to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). The Ecosystem Services Act (ÖLG) proposes financing biodiversity measures in agriculture through a surcharge on raw materials, similar to the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). A projection for Germany estimates a land requirement of 3.8 million hectares and a funding need of approximately 4 billion euros. The financing would be covered by a small price increase in food products, while a landscape-based coordination approach would enhance the effectiveness of the measures. Legal challenges include the integration into existing subsidy programs and the consideration of imported agricultural products. This model could make a significant contribution to biodiversity in agricultural landscapes while remaining economically viable.
